[L4D2 PC] Various Custom Survivor Models by Da1barker and MrLanky [Left 4 Dead 2]

  9. Unfortunately I don't have any more models by da1barker (or any for that matter) and as for the RE1 Wesker model I contacted the maker of it a while ago (even fixed the models textures for him) He said something along the lines of "been busy will work on it soon"

    Naw Ive been wayyyyy toooo busy with my new job to mod much these days sry. But MrLanky has made like A TON of character mods for l4d2! He is amazing!

    I'm at work at the moment but Ill dig out the snake model n the original Jennette model for Ubtri when I get home tonight.

  13. da1barker's port of Snake is downloadable on my blog now. In case he throws more models my way I've made a section for his random models at the top!

    Also the Jeannette model is updated to look like the same model in the picture (with a skirt, that is)

    Just uploaded a new model...made one for myself this time(sorry!). It's still in beta for the moment, but wanted to go ahead and release it to get opinions, suggestions, etc.
    It's NINA WILLIAMS from TEKKEN! :)
    Some kind souls recently helped me learn to rip the models and textures from tekken6 and with a little tweaking was able to make them work in l4d2. Couldn't be happier about that as I'm a HUGE tekken fan. So Paul, Kazuya(or possibly Jin) and Leo are on the list officially as well, but will be a little bit before I get to those guys. In the meantime here is the first attempt at Nina. The shoulder area particularly needs some more work, as do the hands, but otherwise it's seems not so bad(for a beta). Anyways, ubtri should have the links up soon and in the meantime you can grab her from mrlanky.com (if you don't mind rapidshare links). Hopefully will also have the jessica & elexis fixes up this weekend as well. But oh....nina keeps calling to me lol...she keeps saying finish me cupcake, before I stomp your friggin head lol...but i'm trying to resist so I can get some more fixes done. guess that's it for now.

  16. UPDATE 2:
    The jessica fix is up...fixes include eyes(she now has them) and general bone weight tweaking. overall a great improvement. the only thing still ugly looking is her right hand...after 2 hours i still couldn't get it quite right so i finally just gave up on it lol. other than that damn right hand she seems pretty good though. her hair should even have a little bounce now too(not much though). At any rate, files have been sent to ubtri and for those who don't mind rapidshare, the fix link is already on mrlanky.com. Enjoy!

  20. UPDATE:
    Elexis has been updated and links have been sent to ubtri (is on mrlanky.com too for those who don't mind rapidshare). Fixes include...she has eyes, her gloves are replaced with better ones, the hands(although still not perfect) are much better, and the bone weights were generally tweaked to make her move better. Overall a nice improvement. Enjoy!

  29. UPDATE: citizen01 is updated and links are sent to ubtri(rapidshare link on mrlanky.com)
    Fixes include...eyes(he now has them), all bone weights redone (particularly noticeable in the shoulders which are much better now) so he animates better and with less distortion. added hands with fingers(coach's hands actually lol!) so now his hand anims(though still not perfect) are much improved as well...still need to make hime some decent bump maps, but then again, someone else can easily do that, so I'm calling him done for now. other 2 citizens upcoming in the next day or so...
    as for the list I will try to post it when I get tim to find it...right now i'm just concentrating on fixes, and only new ones you might see in the meantime are tekken related(which I'm doing for me)...after survivor fixes will probably do a few weapon fixes...anyways, that's the update for now...enjoy!

  30. Kin Wai, sry not currently working on models for modding l4d2. I feel Cupcake has done a ton more than just fill my shoes on custom characters for l4d2 and I am currently still in a crunch at my work for the games Rapstar and the star wars game for the kinect.

    When i get a break from the crunch at work I think I will return to modding l4d2 and other games. Ill keep ubtri posted so keep coming to this blog for any updates. :)

  36. UPDATE: ->VIRUS<- EUGH!!!
    Just recovered my system from a nasty virus(actually a few of em because it downloaded lotsa friends)...it sucked but on the bright side, nothing is lost except a bit of my time. I was able to repair the system myself(the hardest thing was that my net service got screwed which is a hooked dll btw which win doesn't tell you which one...sigh...I digress). so all my stuff is fine, all my program are fine and I can continue my fixes and such this weekend. Just put me behind a few days is all....that's what I get for going to all those porn sites I guess lol! ;p

  39. I cant seem to get the SWAT_MOD_FOR_SURVIVORS_IN_L_4_D_2.rar to work at all just comes up as my other modded character wich i then deleted then they were just the normal survivors any solutions

  40. @Shoto Sometimes L4D2 gets an update that renders vpk's useless. Maybe one of the blog regulars/modders can fix it, and I will re-upload it if someone does, but I know nothing about modding myself.

  44. UPDATE: Citizen07 fix sent to ubtri and online at mrlanky.com via RS. Also have uploaded a BOO Jockey replacement by RobinF - it's lots of fun so check it out! You can get it from mrlanky.com and of course I have sent ubtri the link as well.
    @snowy...it would really be better if it were in a more standardized format so I wouldn't have to do any converting...3ds, max, obj, smd, etc. Any of those would be better...would also need all the maps included with it. You can upload it to RS, Mediafire, etc and just send me a link to it.

    @ubtri...yeah...ugh...I know that one too lol! All these things are just getting nastier and nastier...in this recent case of mine it was just extra retarded because it ruined the net driver when part of the point was to download more crap and\or trick you into going online and giving them cc info, none of which was possible because they stupidly ruined the net services LMAO!! Despite my frustration I just HAD to laugh at that...it's one of the most f*cktarded things I've ever encountered lol. ;)

    @ everyone...Sorry for the seemingly endless delays...computer probs and such(the latest is that after I fixed windows l4d2 started crashing to desktop...turned out to be a permissions setting on a folder but took a bit of reading online before I figured that out lol)...and of course real life often beckons...hanging out with the wife, and working my other job(yes, I have 2 lol)...so anyways more behind than usual...trying to get my ass back in gear soon. Citizen08 will come in the next day or two, then will continue from there...I'm also learning some other 3d proggies like zbrush and studying for some certifications, so have a lot on my plate for a while, so please just bare with me...things are going to be a little slow sometimes. Thanks for understanding!

  50. lol boo jockey is so funny, but ruins serious gameplay if you're going for realistic horror feel. can you try making this little raptor into a jockey they have pretty much the same pose/size so matching the skeleton shouldn't be much of a problem: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=4Z7RSOK9.   51. UPDATE: another fix file...this is citizen08 which finishes off that set. so I can move on to mor efixes(halfway done with the model fixes no-woo!) update is on mrlanky.com and ubtri of course has the link to the fix which he will post soon as well.
    sorry things are slow, but I'm only one guy, and there's only so much I can do when I have real life obligations to fulfill. Ultimately my family and friends (and job) in real life have to come first and there's just nothing I can do about that. Big thanks to those who have shown me support too; that is what keeps me going! So thanks for the support again! I will, as always, *try* to produce a little faster, but really don't get hopes up too high as I have a LOT on my plate right now. Also, I'm going to hold off on any new requests until I catch up with all I already have after the fixes. Hope you all understand...I'm trying! :)

  54. @Cupcake: Hey glad you're not dead and you're still fixing files! Currently, I'm just learning to skin. Maybe once I get comfortable with the tools I'll try to port models as well too. :D

    Anyway, I noticed you love girls with nice "assets" as evident by your Miss Spencer model. :P

    I want to bring your attention to FakeFactory Alyx models. I've was trying to somehow substitute the Alyx model you've provided but I uhh epic failed. I'm not providing the models because I know you have loads on your plate, but I just want you to look at how hot this Alyx model is. :D

  67. Hi guys. It is typical of Valve to release an update for L4D2, then subsequently survivor model vpk's get broken. Same thing happened with The Passing. Last time around, it was a problem Valve later patched and the models resumed working, so in theory the same should be true this go around. If not then... ...Sorry, I guess. :/

    If anyone fixes them, feel free to let me know and I will re-host the fixed files!

  68. Yes, just to verify a couple of things...I do have a few more fixes ready, however, they now no longer work thanks to valve's newest update breaking vpks(again). It's also broken my server, but that's a story unto itself and is almost fixed anyways so I won't bore you with it...back on topic, I agree we can only wait for valve to repair the problem and/or find another work around...from my initial testing they can be reenabled with a little precaching magic, but it's tedious at best, and not a perfect result, depending on the model\map\weapon combination, etc. so best bet at this point is just to wait...they fixed it last time so should fix it this time as well...if not, then we'll find a way. so anyways, that's where we stand right now...while we wait, i'm working on getting my server back up to par. Will post back soon as I know anything more.

  69. hrm....probably also worth mentioning that the knife and riot shield are also currently broken....seems to be some problem with the way vpks are processed like before...sigh....if you happen to meet a valve employee be sure to kick them firmly in the testicles for me ;p

  71. UPDATE: FIX THE INVISIBLE MODELS!!
    Well, at least now I can say I've accomplished SOMETHING in the past couple weeks lol!
    Ok, so turns out to be an easy fix, and here's the deal:
    As you might know, inside each VPK file is a materials folder. In this folder there are 2 kinds of files...VMT files and VTF files. The VMT files tell the game how to load the maps basically, while the VTF files actually ARE the maps. Ok, so that's clear now.
    The deal with the recent up date is this:
    Inside the VMT file for each map the first line in "vertexlitgeneric"
    Well, since the new update it needs to be vertexlitgeneric WITHOUT the quotes.
    That's it! It's really that easy lol!
    Go figure!
    I would really appreciate it if someone could take it upon themselves to fix the ones ubtri is hosting for me since I'm so short on time. If no one steps up I will try to do it myself this weekend some time.

  76. I tried to edit the vmt files as you said, I also used GCFScape to see the original files of the game and I have also tried to remove the quotes of other items in order to replicate the exact structure of the original vmt files .... but still does not work .. invisible models again :(
    I dont think that has to do with quotes, because I had the models both with and without the quotes and all worked well until the verision 2.0.3.8 now does not work either replacement of the laser pointer that is just a single file (weapon_fx.pcf) inside the vpk.

    after much playing around...my results seem kind of random...some of the models work when I remove the quotes, and some do not. I really have no idea what's going on...for example, alyx, leonre4 and gordon all work fine now, but nina, and feilong and cturban do not. I don't know why...i'm still looking into it...will update if I figure it out...in the meantime all I can say is test and see what works for you...you can also try adjusting the shader settings,etc in the VMT files as I've had some mixed results with that as well...sigh...gotta love these updates... :(

  78. @takuma...hoping to help you out, so here is an example that works...my Ellis_feilong replacement:
    I start with the original folder(apparently my original folders have a couple extra files that the extracted VPKs do not have...no idea why or if it makes a difference). There is 1 VMT and 2 VTFs only is why I chose this as example...
    Open VMT and see this:
    "vertexlitgeneric"
    {
    "$basetexture" "models/survivors/mechanic/allmaps"
    "$bumpmap" "models/survivors/mechanic/allmaps_normal"
    }

    I change it to this:
    vertexlitgeneric

    I start with the original folder(it has 3 extra model files in the model folder: dx80,dx90 & sw-I am still unsure what difference this makes but it does seem to matter. they apparently need to be there).
    I open all VMT files and basically replace with this code:

    obviously fill in appropriate details where needed, but try to alter it as little as possible.
    That has fixed every model I've tried thus far(10 and counting). Sooo....looks like I might have to fix them all myself...sigh...ah well...gonna finish testing tonight and tomorrow and we'll go from there.

    When I try the mw2 survivors pack, i get the invisible models, but according with Cupcake, it can be fixed changing the parameters in the VMT files... But how im suppouse to do that? I've tried using the GCFScape to open the .vpk file and modifing the parameters... but when i try to install the new vpk, i get a error saying that the addon isnt a source engine compatible. Help pls.
