Just stumbled across this... More info to come?

  2. Here are links to the ones I've done so far...PLEASE bare in mind these were
    done VERY quickly and DO have some quirks\problems here and there. Which is
    just to say I didn't spend a lot of time fixing the riggin so some of the animations
    probably looks a little funny, some of the hands may look funny holding certain things
    etc etc etc.
    Also I did not make ANY of these models...I just ported them, from models\rips other
    people did. Except for sagat from sf4...I ripped that one myself. :)
    Still on my to do list:
    Fixing some of the problems with the ones below(so updates will probably come at some point)
    Sora, guile, feilong(in progress), cammy, chun li, akuma, dan, cloud, ravaged zoey,
    a sexier witch, jockey replacement(a surprise!), scorpion replacement for smoker
    and anything else I happen to think of in the meantime...whew...seems like a lot when I make

  3. maybe you can port some RE characters into l4d2, I really love them, maybe you can add barry, rebecca, jill, Chris, Leon (either one of them is good) because using Re5 models are ways better quality

  5. C.Paiznarski - The whole purple means a map is missing usually...I will check on that...
    Azial - Most all of them work fine for me and the people I've had test them for me...so dunno...maybe set sv_consistency 0 in your console and see if that helps?

    I tried to fix by redirecting the vmf and it worked but the right holster turn into a sharp triangle thingy. Can you fix that

    BTW: thx for the jill mode, hope that it will work.

    PS: most of your characters are purple on the eyes, missing textures on the eyes maybe?

  10. Yes the pointy thingy was fixed as well. I also noticed that when I was testing it again...there is a fix for the eyes...I just haven't implemented it yet 0_o...I need to do that soon I suppose...although I believe a few of them do have the fix applied...I think jill has eyes actually and I should have a chris from re5 done in the next day or so... :)
    As for the iconsheet, I haven't played with that much so not sure what you can do with it (Sorry!)

That's mean you can port re5 version of Jill, some people think that RE1's Jill is way hotter than RE5 (because of the nose, some people think it looks like fake nose LOL) I love your work on Jill, it works perfectly on L4D2, Can you port some character for coach, RE2 Barry maybe. I think Barry looks fit with Coach. Ellis looks younger, so Leon should fit. Maybe Chris for Nick?

  13. Just a Note:
    The New Passing update kills these addons(and others)...so to make them work with the new update(until someone finds a better fix) you will need to:
    (1) Download GCFScape
    (2) Open the VPK in GCFScape and extract both folders (materials and models) to your game dir
    \program files\steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead 2\left4dead2\
    Select YES to overwrite files...(won't hurt anything)
    (3) Download Notepad++
    (4) Open Pak01_dir.vpk into Notepad++
    (5) Search for survivor_name (name will be mechanic,gambler,coach or producer depending on who you replace)
    (6) on the first 4 finds from the top of the file, cahnge 1 letter..so for example change survivor_coach to survivor_Boach.

    That *should* do it. But obviously you will want to back up your pak01_dir.vpk first...anyways just an FYI

  15. soundpacks seem to be ok...but I had addons that changed a lot of textures in the game as well as the character addons that changed the survivors and all of those stopped working (aside from using the technique mentioned above). Also killed sourcemod which is a server addon. It's pretty typical thing from valve unfortunately. They don't seem to care very much for their customers. :(

  16. I won't update the passing until the latest update. Actually, do you know how to port custom model into l4d2, I mean before the passing, I want to port some CSS knife animination into l4d2 because someone use MW2 knife animation for CSS.

  18. Left4downtown is also mostly working now too :) :)
    Also, as for the knife I actually have a VPK I made that worked before the passing update so if you don't yet have the update it will work...if you do have the passing it will no longer work until valve fixes the addon support. Let me know if you'd like a link and i'll upload it for you.

  19. I ported one of the css skins into l4d2, but I wanna to ported that MW2 animation for l4d2, it looks real and like soldier when you hold the knife like that:

    Will you customize the Rif552 and Mp5? Almost all of my l4d2's weapons are customize and I love to see each of my favorite on it.

  20. Quick update...
    with valve releasing so many updates...
    anyways, as of now, you can just change the survivor_name as described above and the model replacement VPKs will work again. So that's a little easier now...
    The knife is the only custom weapon i've done as i was not able to fully decompile the regular weapons to customize then...the v_models seem to not compile for me :( so can't customize them until I figure that out.

    C.Piznarski:
    You open up the pak01_dir.vpk in the program called notepad++
    Let's assume you are replacing coach...
    You would search for the string: survivor_coach
    and the first 4 times you find it you would change the name to: survivor_Roach
    Then save the file.
    That forces the game to look for the models rather than using the default models.
    Then, assuming you have all the current updates, drop your character vpk file in addons and it should work...

  23. that's a good idea about changing character's name. However, I downloaded almost all of the custom skins for l4d2 weapons. I think it should be a long time for me to change the name o_o

    How about editing the scripts? Do I need to copy them into scripts folder?

    PS: thx for the RE5 Chris mod, hoping you to port the Resident Evil Character for 4 players. Perhaps considering porting Leon and Barry for it.

    However, I have a minor issue about RE1 Jill which is the hair appears some thin green lines between hair, Can you fix that please?

  30. Can you port RE5 BSAA jill for RE1 because RE5 is high quality than RE1.

    Chris: I tried and his eye brows are very weird.
    The eye lashes are way too long and looks like girlish. The Body part is perfectly fine. I need to restore 2.0.1.1 in order to view Chris's model

    btw the error when editing the pak means something is not done exactly right...it can be a lot of things...but it doesn't matter much now cause they fixed the VPKs!!!! YAY!!!!!

    In celebration of the VPKs working again, here is a port of ravaged zoey from l4d1...this was a really quick direct port of the original, so in other words, I just recompiled it and nothing more...so maybe really glitchy...seemed fine for me in coop though...

    btw consistency may or may not help depending on the scripts...if we're talking weapon scripts then it might help yes, but I would only try it if the server kicks you "enforcing consistency"...

    Can you port RE5's Jill to rochelle because I like Jill on that BSAA Uniform. Just like the Chris. Can you fix Chris's eye lashes issues (lashes are too long). She....nonono....He looks girlish. ROFL

    I hope 2.0.1.5 fixed all the VPKs issues, I love custom skins and actually I modify some of the HUD icon for displaying each character (based on the photos on googling)

  34. Yeah I'll take a look at his eyelashes and see if I notice any easy fixes for it. Will upload a new version if I can fix it. Also, here is a quick RE4 Leon...His hair is messed up, but otherwise he seems mostly ok considering I did him in about 30 minutes lol...so let me know if anything other than the hair is messed up badly...

Right um, I don't know alot about modeling, but Zoey's nude replacement for Rochelle doesn't work at all, I think, maybe you forgot to replace survivor_teenangst.mdl with survivor_producer.mdl in the vpk, Rochelle's model isn't replaced, therefore it's just like having a mod with nothing replacing anything. That's all I can really say about that.

  40. Zoasblog...it's a replacement for Zoey not Rochelle...so you would only see it when you see zoey...and you could only play it if the server has an addon like character switch. My server has that so I change the old survivors now as well as the regular ones, that way we have more custom models to choose from. So, there's nothing wrong with it, it just doesn't replace rochelle is all. ;)

    Speaking of that I have a leon replacement for louis too...forgot to post that...

    giovanni: cool I'll check those out...already grabbed the RE5 pack...just gotta finish a couple kingdom hearts chars for my wife and i'll be back on the cooler stuff again after that. So probably look for a few new ones this weekend from the RE series :)

  55. Hrmmm...that's weird about the louis leon..he works fine for me with no errors...I will get some others to test him this weekend and see if I can figure out why that happened.

    If you install Sourcemod and Metamod on your server you can then run a plugin called Character Select Menu which will let you play as all the available survivors...although I don't think it lets you play bill...but there might be something similar that does...anyways, that is how it is done to the best of my knowledge.

    The ZoeytoClaire is for the passing Zoey.

    The arms can be made to match I just haven't gotten it quite working yet..the arms and the first person view of weapons are giving me problems right now, so still working on that...

    And yes, I will make a clair replacement for Rochelle as well so she is more easy to play as.
    Got a LOT of stuff on my list so will get to everything as soon as I can. :)

  57. about the issue of bill, I think there is a post about how to add l4d1 surivior into l4d2. I modify it as just adding keith and bill so that I can use either of them by typing certain command. However, these models are just models only. they can not be the real characters because bill is dead and keith is not even appeared as regular character in l4d2.

    Did you fix the issues of leon's hair? I love what you did and I really hope we can use all 8 RE character on l4d2. Maybe you can modify them as extra survivors instead of replacement for original characters.Just like creating keith as extra survivors/Models.

    I know there is a plugin which precache them as extra characters/models. Perhaps you can refer to the keith model. You can search L4D Extra survivors on the internet. If you need their models for reference, I can uplaod a copy to you.

  59. I tried leon's skin and it show the whole black and purple.

    I used csm to be zoey and louis. However, the model is floating. Did I do anything wrong? I just replace material and models.

    Fixes an issue with his legs not moving right when walking.

    The floating model usually indicates it's not picking up on the rigging...without actually looking at your setup it's hard for me to say exactly what...but it does sound like it's loading the model only and not the bones... like when you choose the (model) option instead of the regular option...does that help at all? Drop me an email if you'd like to see how they work on my server...I'll invite you next time we play so you can see.

    Oh, and have not had time to look at Leon again yet, but he is on my list so hopefully this weekend some time will be a fix for his hair :)

  61. Cupcake, you did the same thing as Lara, your vmf file set the wrong path. some of the textures links to gambler instead of louis. I fixed it already. However, Leon's left hand seems strange when I am running.

    Actually, Can I choose what I want to replace by changing the name of models?

  62. Oh cool thanks for finding that for me..I'll post a fixed one tomorrow. :)
    The hand probably just wasn't rigged very well...I do these in kind of a hurry so sometimes I don't pay as much attention to detail as I should.

    Also, it looks like all the Francis and Louis replacements are Glitchy. And the squall coach replacement still needs a little fixing too, but is mostly ok. The louis and francis ones don't animate correctly though and haven't quite figured out exactly why not yet...

  63. maybe you should try creating them as custom characters instead of replacement. It should be more compatible for characters. Try converting them into models just like the Keith model. It may fix the problem of compatibility. You can create your model by referring to Keith.

    Also a note: it seems like having custom models can mess up the passing...so if you have problems with that campaign you might try disabling the addons. ;)

  71. Well, I have a nemesis tank made but the arms and stuff get stretched because of the animations so it doesn't look as good. The arms get streatched really long and stuff...so really not that great but if you really really want it i can upload it for you...let me know.

  72. Thanks for telling me about the difficulties of proting nemesis. I know there is a limition of modifying certain models. It takes a lot of effort to do that. In fact, The Vemon tank is quite good for me. I love to see you can port a RE character for Ellis because I love to see the whole team of Resident Evil staffs. Maybe porting Josh or someone else? It's your choice.

    I have to second that there's a problem with Chris—his eyelids are popping out, somehow. But, looking good so far.

    Also, I have to third the request for Hunk. Hunk is awesome. HUNK FOR NICK!

    Anyway, good point about the Hunk model thing. Most of the ones I've seen are really bad. I once made a Hunk knockoff for L4D1 that was a reskinned Counter Strike: Source SAS model (also borrowing from other Hunk skins for CS:S), but it of course wasn't perfect. Still, you can have a look if you like.

  88. Yeah, we definitely appreciate all this. It's way above my head... I can't even compile correctly.

    Is there any special "trick" to compiling these models? My friends and I have a crummy dedicated server we play on, and I've been trying to recompile your models so that they'd be standalone survivors instead of survivor replacements (such as survivor_hunk.mdl, so that I could use a model-switching sourcemod plugin, like I've been doing with survivor_keith.mdl for a while), but no matter what, when I try to compile one of your models, it freaks out and tells me "texturegroups must follow model loading" ...

    Oh well. I'm just glad these things exist. Like everybody else said, take your time. It's cool that somebody's actually putting these things together.

I'm actually not entirely sure on the whole compiling issue...I had a LOT of problems getting my compiler to work at first...I can tell you that I use the hl2 ep1 compiler though because the orange box compiler doesn't work for me AT ALL...it causes my models to crash the game and feedback errors and such...dunno what the l4d or l4d2 compilers would do as I could not even get those to work 0_o
    so I guess my first advice would be to try the same compiler I use and see if that helps...also try using the guistudiomdl with it, as for whatever reason, that seems to help. Also, I run source sdk and model viewer (and leave them running) before I start up guistudiomdl...it just seems to help things in general. So anyhoo, hope that helps you.
    BTW which sourcemod plugin are you using?

    As for the plugin, it's actually not a published/approved plugin, but just a snippet of code somebody posted that I (very lightly) edited. I'll upload the .sp for it tomorrow afternoon and link you, if you're interested. Very easy to use/adapt.

  93. It's not that bad once you get used to it, but yeah took a little work to get it going at first. da1barker has released a good tutorial plus a couple of really helpful videos that helped a LOT. If you're interested I would suggest checking those out...that's what taught me how to do it. :)

  97. Cupcake, here's the script for the plugin I used. I just edited in more survivors than listed (such as the aforementioned Keith model) for mine.

    Works like a charm in conjunction with other, more advanced character changing plugins.

    Anyway, studiomdl, studiocompiler, and guistudiomdl are all kicking my ass, whether I do it from the hl1 bin or L4D2 or whatever. I've even tried compiling it again as a Nick replacement, or as what it originally WAS (Ellis, just as a test), and it still goes on with some garbage about how "texturegroups must follow model loading"... and I don't even know what that means. I think it's just losing some crucial info when I decompile it, and I'm not fleet-of-brain enough to put the pieces back together right.

    I wouldn't normally go through this, but this Hunk is just too awesome, and Ellis is permanently, irrevocably "taken" by one of my constant L4D2 partners. I MUST SUCCEED.

    Oh, and I tried your 454 Casull alpha, by the way. Looks awesome so far.

  99. AHAHAH! I found lazy, ghetto workaround! And it's so obvious, I should've thought of it earlier!

    Rather than decompiling and recompiling the model, I just opened the mdl and changed a single letter of "mechanic" so that it became "hechanic" then renamed all of the files to match. Then, I added it to the script I posted above.

    Now my server can have as many models as my friends are willing to download. UNLIMITED SURVIVOR MODEL POWER! Thanks for your model ports, man. I'm going to be making full use of them now.

  113. giovanni: Caps lock is cruise control for cool, I see. RTFM before you start being rude and pushy.

    Plugins are installed by reading the readme and doing what it tells you to do. If there is no readme, then assume that the smx file goes in the plugins folder. If there is no smx file, assume that it is a script file, and compile it into an smx accordingly. If you don't know how to compile scripts, again, RTFM.

    There are tons of resources about how to install Sourcemod and its various plugins and extensions; I learned in a short time just by reading, browsing Sourcemod's homepage, and Googling, and so can you.

    Be more patient and polite in the future, and maybe people won't have to talk down at you like a child as I just did.

    (in point of fact still looked like a zombie in the suit when i applied the maps to it, so i took the liberty of ellis-a-fying it a bit to make the head look more lifelike...also added some spatter on the suit and cleared some of the spatter from the visor, just for purely visual reasons...the arms tend to go through the chest a bit because the chest sticks out so far, an occasionally the head will clip the side of the helmet, but doing it any other way looked really really gay, so this is what we're stuck with lol! also the file is about 70mb 0_o)

    I'm happy someone out there is taking the time to port these awesome models to L4D2!

    The M16 replacement is wicked but, as you said, it needs some improvements, mainly the way it hangs on each characters back. I'll keep my eye on it in the future.

    As for your character ports, nice job! The only thing I can gripe about is Tyson and Salem from Army of Two. Their size difference is in reverse. Tyson ( Nick's replacement) should be the bigger one. But, I like the way the Coach replacement looks so I'm currently using that along with your CODguy Nick replacement. :D

  123. The only people thinking hes Santa are the 3 people overloading him with RE requests. Only 3 people here has just requested 1 thing, including me. The other 3 just never get satisfied and ask for more. Lets just add the series, stuff it up in the L4D series and make it unoriginal. I'd certainly have enough RE models after the first 3,
    and I'd really like to learn myself. Though the tutorial seems difficult since Heartless isn't detailed enough and my notepad++ won't open with Windows 7 (still trying to find out where to download Notepad++ as I did before in XP). If its anyone you should be blaming here [if you are], it would be the 3 people (I'm not saying names).

    so has anyone had any major probs with the m16 mod? seems to be working pretty well for me thus far, aside from a couple little glitches here and there...if it's fine for everyone else then I will update the maps to fix them, etc and up a new version....

    Really could have done this with a skin since it's soooo similar but needed the practice with replacing models since I'm still new at it. Works pretty well except that the 'give' command used with cheats enabled (or by admin) seems to muck it up a bit. Just through normal play seems totally fine though, aside from the sticking straight out from your back glitch (lol! it's like a superman cape-only a gun! lol!) anyways, let me know any major problems with it you find...thanks!

    Will try to figure out what makes the shotgun do that sometimes. You will know when it's working correctly because the shotgun will be all black. If the shotgun is not all black it will go sideways like that because it's not working right and is missing the animations, etc. will try to figure out why it does that sometimes

I think I might know what glitches the shotgun...apparently it looks as though more than one shotgun uses the same stuff...so chrome shotgun, pumpshotgun, etc all use a lot of the same files, so changing one and leaving the others glitches things...so gonna have to change all of the related shotguns to fix it I think...will post a fix late rtonight if that works.

    It replaces the desert eagle with Alucard's gun from the hellsing anime series(the silver gun, not the black one-I'm saving the black one for if I can get the dual pistols working properly (^_^)!) The only known issue thus far is that the bullets that fly out are missing the texture but it's not really a big deal so I haven't fixed it yet. Anyways, this one was lotsa fun cause I really REALLY wanted it lol! Enjoy!

  136. @nino...I can theoretically make hands for him, yes, but they may or may not work is the problem...and they would definitely not work for custom weapons; that much I am certain of. I can attempt it when I have time, but since there is learning involved in it, it will have to go at the end of my list, after the other stuff is finished. Because it will take longer, etc.
    So short answer is yes, I will eventually attempt it.

  139. Glad to see you got the protrusion on the M16 fixed!

    Still, I think the M16 hangs a little to high up on a character's back, almost reaching the same length as the M60. Aside from that, PWNING work, man!

    BTW, the M3 replacement still has a bug for the chrome shotgun. when worn on the back, it hangs horizontally to the right of the shoulder. The pumpshotgun works like a charm though. xD

  141. The only problems I can see with the G36 rep is the missing hands in first person view. Normally this doesn't bother me since I usually go with a third person OTS camera, but the tracer fire when using the gun seems to come from a point several feet to my right.

    The port itself looks and feels awesome. The zoom function worked out nice for me, still very accurate. I wouldn't mind taking this little baby out for a spin in the near future. XD

  146. The SG552 is not a precached weapon in any map in L4D2 (unless you're using the German version.) This means it won't do any damage until you force the game to load it.

    To do this, you start the campaign using the map "mapname" console command and use the give "rifle_sg552" command to spawn it. Now that it is spawned, you should repeat the map "mapname" command using the same map and when the game starts, you can spawn the SG552 and it will do damage. This also works with the other CS weapons like the MP5, Scout, and AWM, as well as the M60 on non-Passing campaigns.

    This one should fix the issue with a few stray points from the antenna being rigged to the arm envelope...so now should be ok.

    NOTE about the HKG36 arms...it has to do with it not being a standard weapon...I can force the arms to appear, but they glitch out a bit, and honestly, I thought in the grand scheme of things it looked better without them....however, that being said, if the general opinion is that you guys want the arms, I can add them back in, so cast your vote if you want glitched arms. ;)
    For those keeping score at home this is the same problem stopping me from producing 1st person view melee weapons and consequently custom melee weapons. I believe I can already make custom guns, just have not attempted yet...but that is on my list of things to do at some point lol ;p

  159. Oh wow, I guess it's Coach's weird ass skeleton or something with the model's weird ass head making him look like the elephant man. :P

    The other glitch I found (or it maybe just the models not fitting the skeleton properly) is Sheva's shoulders but giovanni HUNK has pointed it out. Sheva's a great replacement for Rochelle, plus she's easier on the eye IMO. :P

    Anyway, keep up the good work, Cupcake!

  160. @Nino: l4d2 already have an mp5, it is in the german version, and you can ennable this with sv_cheats 1 or a sourcemod plugin

    so there is no point to make a weapon replacement for uzi with a gun that already exists in the game

  161. gio, don't be dumb. The mp5's viewmodel isn't even fully done. In sv_cheats you have to go through an annoying cycle to get the weapons to work. Also, it would be easier to include a better looking MP5 to replace the smg, so you can have it in other games without cheats.

    Ok, time for one of those surprises I promised you guys...I'm pretty happ with it, although it isn't quite finished yet...anyhoo, decided to do something a little more custom for ya all...
    so as you know in The Passing, Bill dies, which is kinda lame even though Bill was annoying...so now I have brought him back from the grave as ZombieBill!! And he's out for revenge against the survivors that let him die! lol!
    Anyways, this replaces the hunter, and you must open console and enter 'sv_consistency 0' for it to work properly. If you don't you will probably get a message about serves enforcing consistency, etc.
    Enjoy! And, of course, let me know if you find any horrible glitches. :)

    A Note about ZombieBill: one glitch we've noticed so far is that these large "dishes" will appear in the background when zombiebill is spawned and they will turn red when he attacks you...lol...they don't obstruct your path or anything it's just weird...i think it has something to do with the maps...also, he will disappear when he dies cause he's missing his death anim...think i might can fix that though. :)

    well since i was making models this weekend anyhoo, here is one more quick one...did not spend much time on this so let me know if there are any major bugs...there probably will be lol!
    On a side note...someone requested hard boiled ellis...I checked on this and it's just skin...so there are a lot of other people who can make that...plus about a million tutorials on how to use custom skins on fpsbanana, etc. so I might skip that one...or least move it down the list after the ones that actually need the model converted. Just FYI so no one thinks I ignored/forgot it ;)

Cupcake when you have the time can you try to add some Resident evil enemies for special infected like Tyrant for Charger, Licker for hunter, Proto-Tyrant for Tank, Nemesis for smoker etc... i don't mean all i said ufcource what anything you want to convert, Facepunch have them all.
